Lisa Schwarz

Lisa was certified as an Orton-Gillingham Theraputic tutor in 2006. She also has a master’s degree from Dalhousie University. Being dyslexic herself, Lisa has an intimate understanding of learning disabilities and differences. She still credits her own tutor Carol Dodds as being the one who taught her how to read, write and spell. “Without her help, I doubt that I would be able to read, write and spell at the level necessary to complete my master’s degree.”

Due of the fact that Lisa grew up dyslexic herself, and required tutoring help, she has a deep understanding of the struggles her students go through on a daily basis. She customizes all of her tutoring sessions for her student and his/her special needs. She is able to balance minimizing the frustration that her student feels daily at school, while at the same time pushing them to best of their abilities. She does this by including educational games, physical activities, and teaching her students in the way they learn. “My motto is; if my student isn’t learning in the way I am teaching them, then I have to change the way I teach. There is no such thing as a child who can’t learn.”
